Solidarity is our business

In Union Syndicale we value the cohesion and solidarity between the different sections of our trade union in the EU institutions. This close cooperation maximises the support we can deliver to protect staff interests.

Above all, solidarity means mutual support to individual cases. There are moments in life where we need to act together to protect the colleagues in need. Solidarity is our business after all !

Union Syndicale was recently informed about the story of a colleague affected by a lethal cancer which required a very expensive experimental therapy which was not reimbursed under the joint sickness insurance scheme. Union Syndicale Brussels provided a financial contribution, and we invite colleagues to support the work of the Cancer-Support association for similar cases (CANCER-SUPPORT@ec.europa.eu / www.cancer-support.eu/events)

The Cancer Support Group (CSG) means a bunch of dedicated colleagues who are ready to help.  Should you need them, you can always find somebody at the end of the line on the CSG hotline (ext. 80741) or by email at cancer-support@ec.europa.eu. The service is available during working hours, but it is not unusual to have someone picking up the phone late in the evening or answer an email late at night.

The group can support you in many ways in a confidential and respectful manner. We can help you find answers to questions of which some might be more sensitive or difficult than others. We can help you with the administrative procedures for reimbursement or recognition of a serious illness. Our volunteers also accompany patients (on request) to the clinic and support them during the convalescence. If needed we can help book medical appointments or for a second opinion.
