Record demonstrations against pension reform in France, a general strike atmosphere in the UK, trade union mobilization in Spain, Italy, Denmark and the Netherlands: social discontent is shaking the Old Continent, but for the time being the authorities – both governmental and employer – have failed to give in.

Is this a sign of the decline of trade unions and collective action? Is strike action still the way to get things done?
