In light of the recent escalation of violence and the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, and following the Israeli military interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla as it attempted to deliver aid, the US-IUE declared a work stoppage on Friday, 3 October 2025. This action formed part of a broader movement of international solidarity, aligning with general strikes across Italy.

We are proud to report that over 120 members of the EUI community took part in the national strike and the demonstration in Florence, sending a powerful message of support for human rights, peace, and justice. Their participation reflects the Institute’s ongoing commitment to social responsibility and global solidarity.

This act of civic engagement also received attention in local media, with coverage featured on TGR Toscana, including interventions by US-IUE President Sarah Bernstein and Simona Isidori (viewable from minute 12:10).

This collective action serves as a strong reminder that solidarity is not only a principle but also a practice. The EUI community’s visible support for humanitarian causes underscores our shared responsibility in standing against injustice, wherever it occurs. We thank all participants for their courage, conviction, and contribution to a more compassionate and just world.
