In response to the recent episodes of extreme heat affecting workplaces, the Union Syndicale Fédérale (USF), together with the organisations of the Common Front, has formally addressed the Administration to remind it of its legal obligations regarding health, safety, and prevention in the workplace.
The joint letter calls for the immediate implementation of concrete and verifiable measures to protect staff, as well as children in institutional childcare facilities, whenever heat exposure reaches critical levels. These measures include workplace heat assessments, access to fresh drinking water, adapted working arrangements, teleworking where possible, and specific protections for crèches and childcare services.
As a signatory of this initiative, USF is actively advocating for the full respect of employers’ legal responsibilities and for effective preventive measures to safeguard health and wellbeing during periods of extreme heat and elevated ozone levels. Prevention is not optional. It is a legal requirement and an essential part of ensuring safe working conditions for all.
