As Europeans, we are witnessing horror unleashed by war on our continent on a scale not seen since the Second World War. Several colleagues have been moved to support those affected by the crisis; many have approached us to ask if our fund could help.
We are organising this campaign together with the EU Staff COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund.
The EU Staff COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund was set up as a way for EU staff to show their solidarity with the people in Europe worst hit by the pandemic. Now a new humanitarian crisis is unfolding in Europe. While we know that many colleagues are already supporting those affected by the conflict, we want to offer a means for EU staff to join together and show our collective solidarity with the people of Ukraine. Union Syndicale Fédérale supports this initiative and invite all its members to join and show their support to the Ukrainian people.
The existing partnership with the Belgian King Baudouin Foundation and its extensive network enables us to quickly channel donations to humanitarian organisations working on the ground in Ukraine but also in neighbouring countries as communities receive refugees. To this end, we have set up a special fundraiser to support the people of Ukraine through this humanitarian emergency.
The King Baudouin Foundation has identified organisations in Ukraine (Caritas Ukraine, People in Need and the Ukrainian Red Cross) that we can channel funds to already this week. As the foundation receives requests for support from NGOs active in neighbouring regions, they will be included in the list.
