A European Directive on Workplace Stress is Overdue

News, Working conditions
USF

The ETUC’s call for a European directive on workplace stress and psychosocial risks resonates strongly with the mission of Union Syndicale Fédérale to defend the staff of the European and International Public Service. As public-service workers, we face not only administrative or contractual challenges, but also growing pressures linked to workload, constant availability and poorly structured work — pressures which jeopardise our mental health and capacity to serve the public effectively. With this appeal, ETUC urges European institutions to recognise that protecting workers’ mental health is not a “nice to have”, but an essential condition for a stable, efficient and human-centred public service. USF stands ready to support — and to mobilise — for firm legal safeguards that guarantee sound working conditions for all staff of the European public sector.
