Presentation

In the framework of the right of association recognized by Article 24b (Title I) of the Staff Regulations for Administrative Staff of the European University Institute, a local employees union section linked to the Brussels section of the Union of European and International Officials (SFEI) was established on 2 May 1977.

The US-IUE Florence was set up following the evolution of UIL-Ispra and the subscription to the trade union of European public service – Union Syndicale.

The aim of the US-IUE Florence is to defend the interests of all staff members, without distinction as to category (permanent or contract staff, active or retired) or nationality. The European University Institute comprises two categories of staff which have different Statutory Rules : the Administrative Staff and the Teaching Staff.

The Institute officially recognized the organization and signed a framework agreement in 1992.

A consultation procedure can be initiated at any time at the request of the EUI Authorities or of the Union regarding any issue of general interest related to the staff or to the Staff Regulations.

The Union also collaborates closely with the Staff Committee in order to maintain a constant dialogue with the Authorities.

Currently over 100 individuals, that is more than 50% of the Administrative Staff of the EUI, belong to the Union. The US-IUE Florence is the only union existing at the European University Institute.

An Executive Board is elected by the members, according to the rules of the Statute, and since 2015 by electronic vote. The representatives do not benefit from an actual secondment but have the possibility of meeting during working hours and of going on mission when necessary.

The present Board, consisting of 11 members, was named on 15 March 2022 for a term of three years.
