{"id":6181,"date":"2019-02-26T11:37:42","date_gmt":"2019-02-26T10:37:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/unionsyndicale.eu\/?p=6181"},"modified":"2023-12-29T11:44:40","modified_gmt":"2023-12-29T10:44:40","slug":"harassment-the-importance-of-prevention","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unionsyndicale.eu\/en\/harassment-the-importance-of-prevention\/","title":{"rendered":"Harassment: the importance of prevention!"},"content":{"rendered":"<section class=\"l-section wpb_row height_auto\"><div class=\"l-section-h i-cf\"><div class=\"g-cols vc_row via_flex valign_top type_default stacking_default\"><div class=\"vc_col-sm-12 wpb_column vc_column_container\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><div class=\"g-cols wpb_row via_flex valign_top type_default stacking_default\"><div class=\"vc_col-sm-2 wpb_column vc_column_container\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"vc_col-sm-8 wpb_column vc_column_container\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><div class=\"wpb_text_column us_custom_432d3f53\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>HARASSMENT IN THE WORKPLACE, USF EMPHASIZES THE IMPORTANCE OF PREVENTION<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Round table February 2019<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span class=\"tlid-translation translation\"><span class=\"\" title=\"\">FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>A large audience from the European Union institutions and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.acp.int\/\">Secretariat of the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) group of states<\/a> had the opportunity to interact during the round table that was organised on the theme of #<strong>harassment at work<\/strong> by the Working Group on Harassment (WG) of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unionsyndicale.eu\/en\/organisations-membres-usf\/\">Union Syndicale F\u00e9d\u00e9rale (USF)<\/a>. The event took place in a conference room kindly made available by the ACP Secretariat in presence of the Peter Kempen, Secretary General of USF, as well as Maximin Emagna, President of the ACP Staff Association.<\/p>\n<p>Around the table: in addition to a representative of the victims, a psychologist specialising in well-being at work, a lawyer who regularly deals with Union Syndicale cases, in particular cases of harassment; an agent of the European Commission, member of USF, in his function of a <strong>Safety and Health Officer \u2013 Unit \u201cHealth and Safety at Work<\/strong>, Training in the field of Awareness and Prevention Policy on Psycho-social Risks\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>From the exchange of views on the subject around the table and the reactions and testimonies of the public, several elements emerged. One such was the crucial importance, in avoiding harassment, of prevention, which, in addition to avoiding considerable material costs, could save incalculable human costs. Other observations included the need either to better apply existing instruments or to improve them; the central role of middle managers on the one hand, but also the importance of the top hierarchy on the other, as well as everyone else\u2019s involvement. Emphasis was also placed on the multicultural factor; the notion of fear that sometimes prevails; the aggravating role that an unregulated switchover to digital work can play; the emotional dimension, which is very important in these cases, as well as the importance of people whose role it is to support the victim, from an administrative, medical or legal point of view. The choice between filing an administrative complaint or taking legal action was also discussed, as one does not prevent the other, since the approaches and length of proceedings differ.<\/p>\n<p>One of the conclusions was that we simply have to &#8220;do something&#8221; for our suffering colleagues. In this sense, the draft Rules to improve the handling of complaints, which the <strong>working group on Harassment and Psychosocial Risks<\/strong> has submitted to the Federal Committee for the Bratislava Congress, provides guidance on the essential elements to be taken into account in lobbying our institutions for better handling of instances of harassment and to help the trade union organisations affiliated to USF to provide day-to-day assistance to our fellow workers concerned by this scourge.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"w-separator size_large\"><\/div><div class=\"w-separator size_medium with_line width_50 thick_3 style_solid color_primary align_center\"><div class=\"w-separator-h\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"vc_col-sm-2 wpb_column vc_column_container\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section><section class=\"l-section wpb_row height_auto\"><div class=\"l-section-h i-cf\"><div class=\"g-cols vc_row via_flex valign_top type_default stacking_default\"><div class=\"vc_col-sm-12 wpb_column vc_column_container\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Harassment in the workplace &#8211; As the various interventions around the table have shown, the crucial importance of prevention is clear!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":6179,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[69],"tags":[],"dossier-special":[],"class_list":["post-6181","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-special-report"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.3 -
