No longer able to remain in the U.K., the two prestigious agencies will be relocated elsewhere in the bloc.<\/p>\n<p>For the hundreds of staff working at the European Medicines Agency and European Banking Authority and their families, this is a critical moment that will shape their lives. Likewise, for the cities bidding to welcome them, there is much at stake \u2014 political cachet and an economic boost.<\/p>\n<p>With the end of July deadline for bids from countries hoping to host the agencies looming, this is POLITICO&#8217;s guide to what is happening and why it matters.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Who are the front-runners?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>EBA:<\/strong> The front-runner is <strong>Frankfurt<\/strong>. The German financial hub leads the pack on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.eu\/pro\/brexit-banks-frankfurt-touts-expertise-not-pomp-in-battle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">attracting a big chunk of banking business<\/a>, with major international firms like Citigroup, Deutsche Bank\u00a0and most recently Mizuho planning on opening offices there. A <a href=\"https:\/\/frankfurt-main-finance.com\/en\/finanzplatz-frankfurt-ist-grosser-profiteur-eines-brexits\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">recent poll<\/a> by lobby group Frankfurt Main Finance found that 57 percent in the German financial industry believe the EBA will come to Frankfurt.\u00a0But <strong>Paris<\/strong> is actively <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/paris-battles-frankfurt-in-post-brexit-bid-for-banking-watchdog\/\">contesting<\/a>\u00a0Frankfurt\u2019s bid and likely to veto any moves to merge the EBA with EIOPA.<\/p>\n<p><strong>EMA:<\/strong> Broadly speaking, the Western European and some Scandinavian countries appear to be front-runners. They have been the most vocal and open about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.eu\/pro\/brexit-ema-european-medicines-agency-hosting-who-is-dead-serious-and-who-along-for-the-ride\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">their bids<\/a>. Some, like the <strong>Netherlands<\/strong>, <strong>Ireland<\/strong> and <strong>Denmark<\/strong>, hosted events in Brussels to present their bids. This is in stark contrast to others like Bulgaria, Finland, Hungary and Slovakia, who are keeping bid details more quiet.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong><a
